LOCKED IN & TAPPED OUT came about after working as an escape-room game master and participating in the Dutch pilot of the reality tv competition The Genius. Mixing live action and 3D animation, the work takes the form of a fictional escape-room game show set inside a 3D model of NELLY DANSEN. Presented as a three-channel installation that incorporates the aesthetics and infrastructure of reality tv production, the project explores Bimbofatigue™: the moment a persona becomes a character you can no longer log out of. Can you escape a version of yourself that you performed into existence?

Nelke Cor Mast (she/her), alias NELLY DANSEN, is a self-proclaimed Media Infiltrating Bimbo™, born somewhere in a Frisian Forest and raised in a House of Punks. In her work she researches erotic capital, self-conceptualisation and the deconstruction of contemporary & artistic identity. Through the embodiment of NELLY DANSEN, she captivates and critiques our zeitgeist, using her alter ego as the primary tool for queer-feminist expression. Alongside the question “NELLY DANSEN: a Girl™ or a Concept?”, the Freudian Madonna vs. The Whore complex is a red thread in her artistic practice. NELLY’s work thrives on real-world collisions: moments where performance and reality collapse into one another allowing her work to stay ALIVE, open and responsive.
