Tell Me a Rodeo Story consists of two moving image works that reflect on the illusive nature of history, memory, and narrative. Composed of archival remnants, staged scenes, and disjunctive sound, the films resist narrative cohesion, unfolding instead as a series of echoes, ruptures, and repetitions. Gestures are rehearsed and re-performed, images double back on themselves, and timelines blur—suggesting that what we call history is often a patchwork of omissions, distortions, and half-remembered truths. Tell Me a Rodeo Story does not seek to reconstruct the past but to linger in its absences, examining how memory is shaped as much by forgetting as by recall. Through this fractured visual and sonic language, the films offer a meditation on the residue of stories that resist resolution.

Morgan Howey is a filmmaker and multimedia artist exploring identity, performance, and the tension between authenticity and constructed narratives. Her current work blends documentary and narrative filmmaking, often incorporating archival materials to examine how memory and myth shape cultural perception. She is particularly interested in oral traditions and the ways stories evolve through repetition, omission, and reinterpretation. Through film, she investigates the loss of authorship that occurs when identities are preserved through false or commodified images, seeking to challenge dominant narratives and offer new perspectives on representation and self-expression, particularly in relation to gesture and its habitualization.
