21 Scores for Losing Yourself in a Body (2024)
16mm, hand-processed film, digitally scanned with HD video; Stereo sound; Colour; 23m01s
For her somatic film, artist and filmmaker Michèle Saint-Michel collaborated with 34 London artists to capture event score-based somatic choreographies. The event scores in “21 Scores for Losing Yourself in a Body'' invite participants to explore the edges of their interiority through somatic experiencing captured digitally and on 16mm film. Saint-Michel hand processed the 16mm film, which is superimposed digitally with single shots of the skyscape over London. Sound for the film is provided by award-winning experimental composer Peter Flint.
Sublimation of the Unquenchable Body (2024)
Collection of 6 silk textiles, digitally printed, hand finished, 300cm x 100cm
Large textile prints accompany the film as a collection of visual poems. The visual poems are digitally printed on hand-finished silk organza, 300cm x 100cm. Titles are borrowed lines from Jorie Graham poems. These include: “Wide hands squeeze together low-hanging clouds”, “The speed of light, down here, upthrown in my hands”, and “It is a tender maneuver, hands making and unmaking promises”, among others.

Michèle Saint-Michel is a filmmaker, artist, and poet. She makes work around issues of power, feminist ecologies, somatic memory, and quantum mechanics. Often incorporating poetry and archival footage with preserved insects, seeds, and leaves, Saint-Michel taps into nature as an allegory for emotional experiencing. Working across poetry film, Fluxus sound, movement, and books, her works construct paradoxical tensions within polytemporalities, foregrounding healing, softening as resistance, and the poiesis of more care-full futures. Saint-Michel is the author of four books, a set of journals, and a colouring book.
