Titled after the M.R James’ ghost story of the same name, ‘View from a Hill’ (2023) investigates the growing tensions within the English countryside between tradition and sustainable futures. Shot over a period of three years, the work documents rural management across three industries: hill farming, conservation and gamekeeping.

Beginning with extensive field research, my documentary practice explores contemporary interaction with tradition, landscape and folk culture. Through durational case studies, I investigate how groups and individuals seek to access spaces that engage with local histories and interrogate what role these narratives play within current environmental and political climates.
