A Portrait of the Artist as a Sunrise is a two channel installation by filmmaker and artist David Alexander that explores his relationship to blackness. The work explores personal history through a triptych moving image sequence projected onto black paint and shifting perspectives through a sequentially evolving black gradient.
David is a filmmaker and artist. He has made work for Channel 4, Nowness, Film London, the British Film Institute, the Tribeca Film Institute and the Arts Council. He has won awards from the 46664 Nelson Mandela Foundation and Time Out magazine and is the recipient of a Soho House Creative Fellowship. He has been selected for talent development programmes at the London Film Festival, the Tribeca Film Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival and the Berlin Film Festival and is an alumni of Goldsmiths University.
