In an anonymous cave, sound recordists search for frequencies that is beyond the range of human reach. A girl sends a prayer at a temple, where an encounter with an elderly woman stirs dreams of her estranged father. As memories surface, a journey of spirits unfolds—a cycle of death and rebirth, echoing through thousands, millions of years.

Asako Ujita (b. 1997, Japan) is a London-based filmmaker and artist working with 16mm film. Her films drift through forgotten landscapes and ancestral whispers, where myth, memory, intergenerational trauma, and tender love dissolve into fragile dreams.
Her work breathes with the ephemeral shimmer of mist, fire, water, and light—elements flickering between presence and absence, carrying loss, inherited wounds, ghostly echoes, and quiet intimacy. Narratives unfold through shifting atmospheres and silence, inviting viewers to dwell in spaces where time softens and meaning lingers unspoken.

Drawing on traces left by unknown past, Ujita explores the fragile border between memory and forgetting, presence and disappearance. Nature and ghosts are living vessels for memory, pain, tenderness, and renewal. Her films have been shown worldwide, including at the Grand Prix at 25FPS Festival, Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin, Beijing International Short Film Festival, Alchemy Film & Moving Image Festival, Barbican Centre, and Tate Britain.
