How To Look At A Photobook 2026, digital video on monitor, 8m 26s loop, in corridor.
Using my photographs of Benin City, Madrid, & New York, along with an old audio recording of my father discussing his experiences traveling to Europe and then the U.S, I profile the memories of my dad’s dream to leave his hometown for the west. The installation is then accompanied with a photobook titled “Benin Report” that contains images I’ve photographed of Benin City over the past 5 years.
Differing experiences of time, black physicality, and the presence of the physicality that remains in its absence or disappearance are themes at the core of my practice. Each project’s specific conditions dictate the visual forms my work takes, from installation and sculpture to film, video and photography. My background in psychology informs the way I work with bodies – nourishing my tendency to letting the physical and internal worlds express themselves simultaneously.
